The Limpopo crime statistics for the 4th quarter of 2022/2023 indicate yet another predicted increase under the leadership of Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
The latest crime figures for 1 January to 31 March 2023 – the only true gauge of whether a Police Commissioner is doing her job or not- paint a grim picture.
The 17 Community Reported Serious Crimes showed a year-on-year increase of 5.8%, second highest nationally only the to the Northern Cape who reported an increase of 9.3%.
Every day, 148 people reported crimes likes murder, assault, sexual offences, theft and robbery.
Concerning year-on-year increases, the following were reported:
- Murders increased by 13.7%; 3 people in Limpopo were murdered daily
- 999 rapes increased by 10.4%, the highest nationally. Thohoyandou remains the rape capital of the province and is number 2 on the top 30 stations; Seshego, Mankweng, Maake, 10,11 and 20 on the national top 30 stations respectively
- Assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm increased and common assault increased by 7.1% and 13.5% respectively
- Carjackings increased by 13.4%
- Robbery of cash in transit vehicles increased by 75%
Limpopo has been experiencing an annual increase in crime for years now and the ANC executive would like to downplay and normalise this scourge by lip service and empty promises.
Lt.Gen Hadebe has no plan to reduce crime in the province and endangers our men and women in blue who put their lives on the line to protect and serve with minimal resources and support; she must go!
