The DA in Limpopo has written to Premier Stan Mathabatha for more details and clarity on the hundreds of millions allegedly unspent in the 2022/23 financial year and returned to Treasury.
Limpopo seemingly returned over a billion rand in unspent amounts from their allocated budgets:
- Education: R523.3 million
- Health: R570.5 million
- Public works, Roads and Infrastructure: R 226.1 million
- Agriculture: R98.7 million
- Social Development: R72.4 million
- Legislature: R45.1 million
- Transport and Community Safety: R40.7 million
- Premier’s office: R16 million
- Treasury: R14 million
- Economic Development, Environment and Tourism: R8.4 million
We are extremely concerned by the slow pace of spending given that the funds could have been used to develop the province and address different challenges across the different departments.
These funds could have provided opportunities to improve schools, hospitals and clinics, fund social development programmes and address infrastructure and vacancy challenges in the province.
The failure to spend available funds is unacceptable and a slap in the face to Limpopo residents who continue to suffer as a result of inadequate services.
The time has come to bring an end to the neglect of the people of Limpopo. A vote for the DA in 2024, will ensure much needed change and upliftment of all.
