The DA in Limpopo calls on Education MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, to urgently fill all funded education posts in the province and to provide a comprehensive action plan to the Portfolio Committee on Education in the Limpopo Legislature.
Hundreds of vacancies in the Limpopo Department of Education (LDoE) threaten to negatively impact our learners, and deprive them of a quality education.
Limpopo has 167 vacant principal posts, while there are 536 vacant deputy principal posts, 177 vacant departmental head posts and 203 post level 1 teaching posts.
Furthermore, the department’s vacancy rate stood at 7.1% in November 2024, and while this figure might be slightly lower when temporary and acting appointments are included, it is still not acceptable. The failure to fill these vacancies creates instability at our schools, and may negatively affect performance during the academic year.
The department’s failure to fill critical teaching and managerial posts hampers quality teaching and learning and leaves the province in a situation in which educators are understaffed but many of our schools are overcrowded.
The DA demands that all vacancies in Limpopo be urgently filled. Limpopo’s failure to fill principal, deputy principal, and department head vacancies will result in a lack of leadership and poorly performing schools.
