The DA in Makhado Municipality will write to the Municipal Manager, Kent Nemaname, over the poor state of the D3761 road that has been neglected by the municipality for over four years without any maintenance.
The D3761 road is the only access road to Valdezia and other surrounding villages, and residents are now forced to travel 5 kilometres to access public transport because buses can’t enter the village due to the poor state of the road. The road has been neglected and is in a desperately poor condition, leading to community members having to fix the road on their own. View photos here, here, here, here and video here.
The municipality has failed to prioritise this road for the past four financial years, even though community members have been submitting it to IDP and Imbizo public participation processes.
The poor condition of the D3761 also hampers economic development and service provision in the area because businesses, schools, work places, hospitals and emergency services to residents are negatively affected and inaccessible.
Makhado Municipality must prioritise the maintenance of the D3761 road. The failure to maintain the road is unacceptable because it is key to economic activity and the accessibility of services in Valdezia.
The DA is committed to ensuring that the municipality provides adequate roads for the residents of Valdezia and surrounding villages that brings jobs, access to services and facilitates economic development. The residents of Makhado Municipality deserve better.
