The DA in Limpopo has written to Limpopo Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure MEC, Nkakareng Rakgoale, to request urgent maintenance on old and neglected bridges in Mogalakwena.
After numerous complaints from residents and the farming community, an oversight visit with DA councillor, Corinus Du Toit, revealed the poor state of the Kunap River bridge on the R518 road and the D2644 bridge.
The Kunap River bridge is widely used by residents, mines, and farmers to transport their goods to Gauteng and is vital to economic activity in the area. The soil and material at the base of the bridge have been eroded over the years, and it has large cracks. View photos here, here, here, and here.
The D2644 bridge is used by residents and learners in villages along the D2644 road in order to travel between Marken and Bakenberg.
The bridge’s base has also been eroded, and no maintenance has taken place in decades. View photos here, here, here and video here.
These bridges are in poor condition, which may undermine their stability, posing a risk to all vehicles and community members that use them. Rakgoale needs to urgently address the situation.
The DA is committed to ensuring that infrastructure is maintained to support economic development and ensure the safety of residents.
