No fire trucks, no water- 3 Homes burnt down in Ephraim Mogale

Issued by Lindy Wilson MPL – DA Constituency Head for Ephraim Mogale Municipality

The DA will write to the MEC of CoGHSTA, Basikopo Makamu, seeking answers as to why the Sekhukhune District Municipality and the Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality has deliberately put an entire town at risk.

Over the last couple of months three homes burnt down because all the fire trucks and emergency services for the town were moved to Elias Motsoaledi municipality, over 30 kilometers from the town of Ephraim Mogale, leaving the entire community vulnerable and at risk.

In the latest incident on 6 March 2024, a home in Protea Street burnt to the ground because there were no fire trucks or emergency services to assist in the crisis. View photos here, here and here

The fire truck from Elias Motsoaledi Municipality took over 30 minutes to arrive; with no water on board and not one of the fire extinguishers in a working condition. The crew stood idly by while the house burnt down.

Furthermore, the Ephraim Mogale Clinic is now also without an ambulance after their ambulance was moved to the Toitskraal Clinic, leaving the town without emergency medical services.

In a recent response to written questions, the National Minister of CoGTA advised that Limpopo was one of the provinces that did not meet the Fire Assessments standards.

MEC Makamu must also explain who will be responsible for the losses experienced by the residents as a result of the unavailability of emergency services.

The ANC-led municipalities have collapsed at every level and we are appalled by the failure of the Ephraim Mogale and Sekhukhune Municipalities to provide a safe and secure environment for residents.

Voters have the opportunity on 29 May 2024 to vote out corruption, cadre deployment and mismanagement and vote for the DA to assure a safe and secure environment.
