The DA will write to Lephalale local municipality Mayor, Aaron Mokgetle,  to intervene and urgently address the terrible state of the Relebogile access road in Marapong township, Lephalale.

The pothole-riddled access road has been poorly maintained and neglected for years and now poses a significant threat to road safety and causes damage to vehicles. The road’s poor condition sometimes forces drivers to swerve into oncoming traffic or drive off the road, increasing the risk of accidents.  View photos here, here, here and here.

The Relebogile access road is essential in the area and handles high volumes of traffic, including scholar transport, commuters going into Lephalale town and transport for workers to Medupi power station, Exxaro mine and other businesses.

The terrible condition of the road demonstrates the failure of the municipality to maintain critical infrastructure like this access road and their lackadaisical approach to ensuring road user safety. The DA has repeatedly raised our concerns regarding the road in the municipal council.

The DA will continue to hold the municipality accountable and ensure residents have access to safe road infrastructure. We will closely monitor the situation.
