The safety of motorists and pedestrians using the neglected D1350 (Deerpark) road is at risk due to the dilapidated condition of the road. The DA in Limpopo has written to Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure MEC, Ernest Rachoene, for urgent intervention on the appalling state of the road as well as clarity on the department’s plans for the road’s restoration.
An oversight inspection by DA Councillor, Chrisma Bredenkamp, revealed that the road is dilapidated, poorly maintained and riddled with large potholes that have the potential to cause serious accidents. View photos here, here, here, here and video here.
The D1350 is vital to the area’s economy and is used by workers, learners and other community members on a daily basis. The road starts at the Deerpark T junction to Madumane via Morutji and Madumane four-way, serving motorists and residents in both the Greater Tzaneen and Greater Letaba Municipalities along the Matshwi belt.
The oversight inspection confirmed that this road has been neglected, not been properly maintained for years and suggests an uncaring attitude by the ANC led provincial government. MEC Rachoene, must prioritise addressing the safety of road users on the D1350 and provide clarity on the department’s plans and timelines for this road’s maintenance.
The Greater Tzaneen Municipality and the Public Works Department have previously indicated that there are contractors appointed to maintain this road but there is very little tangible proof of this, promises won’t fill the potholes!
The DA cares about the safety of all road users and has proven that where we govern we are committed to providing safe, well maintained provincial road infrastructure that supports economic development and job creation
