The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Thabazimbi Municipality will write to the Municipal Manager demanding that the municipal administration stop capitulating to gross political interference and give effect to a standing Council resolution, adopted six months ago in April 2025, which directed the immediate employment of 60 temporary workers for a three-month period starting 1 June 2025.
These workers were identified and intended to be deployment across the Thabazimbi municipal area to urgently support and improve service delivery. Yet, to date, not a single appointment has been made, despite the clear Council directive and the escalating needs on the ground.
The DA has established that political interference by certain councillors is obstructing this process. This is unacceptable. While residents continue to endure worsening service delivery, the municipal administration has failed to act decisively and has allowed political meddling to derail interventions intended to benefit the community.
We condemn this inaction and demand that the administration immediately implement the Council resolution and proceed with the appointment of the 60 workers without further delay. Political interference in administrative processes is clearly unlawful, and undermines governance and directly harms residents who are being denied the basic services they deserve.
The DA will continue to fight for transparent, accountable, and efficient service delivery in Thabazimbi, and we call on the administration to put the community’s needs above narrow political interests – which have no place in the matter.
