The Democratic Alliance (DA) is very concerned about the Matric Mathematics paper 2 that has been leaked in Limpopo.

Reports that parts of the paper became available in Limpopo during the early hours this morning, was confirmed when the leaked information was compared to the paper that was written at 09:00 this morning.

During the 2015 matric finals the Matric Life Science Paper 2 was leaked with little consequences for those implicated. In 2015 the actions taken by the Limpopo Department of Education (LDOE) were inadequate and lacked clear political leadership.

It is therefore no surprise that MEC for Education, Polly Boshielo has yet to comment.

It is clear that just as in 2015, the department did not have the appropriate security measures in place to safeguard the content of Matric examination papers.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) confirmed that an investigation is underway and depending the outcome of the investigation, affected schools may be required to writes another paper on a date and time determined by the DBE.

The DA is concerned that the lack of appropriate security measures implemented by the Limpopo department of education has compromised the integrity pf the 2020 exams. This is particularly tragic after the very difficult school year experienced by our learners in the Covid-19 lockdown.

The DA has consistently warned against poor financial and non-financial performance by officials who lack the appropriate competencies, slow response by political leadership to root causes of negative financial audits and continuous lack of compliance with laws and regulations such as Supply Chain Management

We call on MEC Boshielo to be transparent and to table a concise report on the findings of the investigation into the leaks to the portfolio committee of education.

We further urge the MEC and her department to stringently comply with the recommendations made by the UMALUSI examination readiness report for Limpopo.
