Today the Democratic Alliance will write to the Commission on Gender Equality to lodge a grievance Against the Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) for the lack of any female representation in the current LTA.
This follows after the resignation of the chief executive officer and the chief financial officer, who were both women.
The DA is shocked by the perspective of the LTA board chairperson, Mr Andrew Dipela, who stated last week that this SOE does not have women who can replace in the positions previously held by the 2 women.
Mr Dipela went on to grandstand by stating that SOE’s should have stricter measures in place to ensure talented female representation.
24% of South Africa’s SOE’s are led by women and around 40% of directors’ position ate being held by women.
To have no female representation in the LTA is blatant discrimination and is a flagrant disregard for our Constitutional democracy which guarantees women equal opportunities.
Although the DA welcomes the fact that the Commission of Gender Equality called on Premier Mathabatha to put stringent measures in place for gender transformation, we would like this specific instance investigated and the LTA board to be restructured.
If the Premier was serious about gender transformation, such an incident would never have occurred.
The DA believes that Limpopo has exceptionally talented women who are as equal to the task as their male counterpart and they should be given the same opportunities in our government as men.
