The DA has written to the Mayor of Greater Letaba Municipality, Dagma Mamanyoha, to immediately launch a project to build a pedestrian bridge across Molototsi river for learners and residents in Polaseng village in Ward 30.
During an oversight inspection, the DA witnessed learners and other residents risking their lives by crossing this river to get to the other side of the village. View photos here, here, here and video here
After heavy rains the river has turbulent fast flowing water and learners either place their lives at great risk while trying to cross it or when they are unable to, simply miss school. Community members also cannot go to work and cannot afford to use an alternative route.
Community members of Polaseng and neighbouring villages have previously sought assistance but to no avail. It is important that this unacceptable situation is urgently addressed in order to avoid drowning incidents.
The DA appeals to Mamanyoha to urgently construct a temporary pedestrian bridge while making plans to build a proper bridge for this community.
The DA will continue to fight for the safety of all our residents, especially learners as their education is a critical factor in ensuring a bright future for young people.
