The Democratic Alliance in Limpopo strongly condemns the latest farm attack on the Vos family in the Musina area. We denounce this senseless violence—one farm attack is one too many!

According to a police report, Mr. Vos, his wife, and their three minor children were threatened, tortured, and sustained serious injuries, requiring hospital treatment.

We commend the police and the local Farm Watch for their swift action, including the recovery of the family’s vehicle and several firearms. However, we urge law enforcement to intensify efforts to apprehend the suspects and ensure they face justice.

The Democratic Alliance reiterates its national call for the urgent establishment of well-functioning Rural Safety Units with dedicated detective support within SAPS across the country.

We also support our party’s stance to halt the decline in Police Reservist numbers and, instead, to strengthen their ranks. Reservists are crucial in stabilizing our vast rural areas, where permanent police officers and resources, such as vehicles, are often insufficient. They play a vital role in bridging these gaps, enhancing security for rural communities, and proactively preventing heinous crimes like these.

We extend our heartfelt wishes to the Vos family for a full and speedy recovery.

More must be done to ensure the safety of everyone living and working on farms—farmers, workers, and their families—as well as in rural areas across Limpopo Province.
