The DA in Limpopo will write to Eskom’s national management to take action against failures by the local Eskom operation in Ohrigstad, where Eskom meters are exploding, power supply is constantly interrupted, and technical teams do not respond to service requests.

Since 3 November 2024, parts of Ohrigstad town and surrounding farms in the Rietfontein area have faced prolonged electricity outages. This is now a whole month later, and still the power is out.

The constant disruption of electricity supply has resulted in loss of appliances, rotten food and other problems for the people in the area.

The constant electricity disruptions are destroying the two sectors of the economy that keep the town alive, namely agriculture and tourism.

During the visit to the area, the community raised to the DA that uncooperative Eskom technical teams in the Ohrigstad area do not respond to urgent requests, and do not upgrade the old infrastructure.

The DA will continue to monitor this issue until it is resolved.
