The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Limpopo is shocked and deeply saddened by the second farm attack on the Scholtz family from Harteles/Roossenekal area of the Sekhukhune District.

We demand decisive action from the South African Police Service (SAPS).

On Monday this week, we extended our condolences to the Scholtz family following the brutal murder of Mr Robert Scholtz on his farm late last week.

We have now been informed that Mrs Mimi Scholtz, the sister of the late Mr Robert Scholtz, who lives approximately 5 km from his home, was attacked and shot on Monday night with a weapon believed to have been stolen during the fatal attack on her brother.

Mrs Scholtz was hospitalised and later discharged.

We reiterate our call, as the Democratic Alliance, for enhanced and better-resourced rural safety policing.

Platitudes from SAPS to the effect that “all available resources have been mobilised to search for the suspects,” as stated following the murder of Mimi’s elderly brother, are simply not good enough. We need urgent and concrete action — and the arrest of the perpetrators, now.

We wish Mrs Scholtz a speedy recovery, and hope that the Scholtz family finds some respite during this most trying time.
