The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality has launched a petition demanding the urgent development of a strategic plan—backed by a dedicated budget and clear timelines—to ensure the maintenance and rehabilitation of the town’s CBD (Ward 15).
The petition, available both online (link available here) and in physical form, will run from 21 February 2025 to 11 March 2025.
In the past, Tzaneen’s roads were adequately maintained, but today, they are in a state of disrepair, with many barely drivable. This crisis affects both residential and business areas, causing frustration for residents and economic harm to local businesses, which are expected to pay rates and taxes without receiving adequate service delivery.
Ward 15 is the heart of Tzaneen, yet the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and municipal budget fail to include ring-fenced, detailed projects for road maintenance and rehabilitation. This neglect is unacceptable.
The DA prioritises road user safety—not just for local commuters but also for visitors who contribute to the town’s economy.
We have submitted formal questions to be debated in the February council meeting.
The DA urges the Tzaneen community to support the petition, attend the upcoming IDP and budget public participation meetings in March/April 2025, and demand accountability to ensure the proper allocation of funds.
Residents and business owners in Ward 15 deserve better. Let’s fight for it—together.
