The DA in Limpopo has written to the MEC of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Ernest Rachoene, demanding answers on what can only be described as the department’s shameful attempts to evict two elderly pensioners from a property they have legally occupied for nearly 30 years.
Despite renting a section of restant Loskop South 53 JS as well as the adjacent property in Groblersdal and maintaining the land since 1998—after the department neglected it—these pensioners are now being harassed and threatened with removal under suspicious circumstances. Their approved application to buy the property was inexplicably halted when the land was transferred from Mpumalanga to Limpopo as it falls within the province’s boundaries.
In 2024, an individual, allegedly linked to the department, arrived with an illegal agreement ordering them to vacate. Attempts to cut down trees and take over the land were only stopped after DA intervention.
The department’s bullying tactics are disgraceful. The MEC must ensure these pensioners are not unlawfully removed unless there is a legitimate legal reason for doing so. The DA will continue to hold the department to account.
