DA in Waterberg Constituency submits service delivery petition to Parliament

16 Sep 2025 in Press Statements

Today the DA in Waterberg will submit a service delivery petition to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza.

The petition was signed by 15 000 residents of Bela Bela, Modimolle-Mookgopong and Thabazimbi over several months to affirm the right to live in clean, safe communities with reliable water and electricity.

We have exhausted all the avenues available to communities to remedy pressing and longstanding service delivery challenges. This includes petitions, meetings, formal complaints lodged at the MEC for COGHSTA in Limpopo, Mayors, Speakers, Municipal Managers, Department Managers/Directors of municipalities, Human Rights Commission & SAPS (including criminal cases opened), Green Scorpions to no avail.

Residents of these three municipalities can no longer tolerate lack of water supply and irregular electricity, potholes, illegal landfill sites, broken streetlights, sewage spills, open stormwater drains, cattle grazing in private gardens and unkept pavements and parks. The decay of our towns affects property prices, investment opportunities and the general well-being of residents and it is clear that the municipalities and provincial government have no interest in addressing these challenges.

These towns are the entrances to Limpopo, a tourism hub, and major contributors to our agriculture and game industry; which must be supported for growth and not neglected.

The DA will share progress of the petition progress on social media and community groups.
