The DA in Mopani District Municipality has outlined 5 key priorities that new permanent Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Mojela, must prioritise to get Mopani working again.
This appointment follows 18 months of numerous officials holding the position on an acting basis after the former CFO had been placed on precautionary suspension and was subsequently dismissed.
Mr Mojela who has previously acted as CFO, will now be tasked with continuing to strengthen the municipality’s financial management, financial reporting and play an important role in strategic decision making and good governance.
The newly appointed CFO should concentrate on the following aspects to improve the finances of Mopani:
- Manage and improve revenue and debt collection.
- Improve financial reporting and preparation of financial statements
- Budget consolidation and interventions to address an unfunded budget
- Spend Conditional Grants to their full capacity to deliver services.
- Curb Unauthorised, Irregular, Wasteful and Fruitless expenditure.
Our expectation is that the appointment of Mr Mojela as CFO will bring much needed institutional financial stability and sound financial planning in a municipality that has struggled with historical challenges such as poor revenue collection and service delivery.
The DA remains committed to its oversight of Mopani District Municipality’s finances to ensure good governance, transparency and accountability. The people of Mopani deserve leadership and senior officials that prioritise their interests and address the municipality’s challenges.
