The Democratic Alliance in Mopani District Municipality will write to the Municipal Manager ,Mr  Tshepo Mogano, to prioritise repairs  to the leaking pipe at Siyandhani Village along the road between Hlungwani Timbers and Tsakani Lodge.(See photos here,  here and here)

Thousands of litres of water are lost for consumption daily while residents of Gangeni endures dry taps for months on end.

Desperate residents buy water at R5.00 per 25 litre drum;  those who can’t afford it, fetch water from a contaminated well that they have dug  where animals also drink.

There also seems to be no urgency to fix the water hydrants in Kremetart , which were vandalized and hijacked by the water mafias and vendors who sell  municipal water to desperate Siyandhani residents in and the surrounding villages. (See photo  here)

During the first 6 months of the 2025/2026 financial year, Mopani District recorded water losses of 22%; for every 4 kilolitres purchased by Mopani District, one kilolitre  is lost to residents.

The persistent water crisis in Giyani, Limpopo, stems from over a decade of stalled infrastructure, corruption, and delayed upgrades.

While the multi-billion-rand Giyani Bulk Water Project has expanded pipelines to connect 55 villages to the Nandoni Dam, funding shortfalls and failing local reticulation networks leave many residents facing chronic shortages.

Mopani District and Giyani municipality spend only 3% of the budget on repairs and maintenance of infrastructure, which is well below the norm of 8% and severely compromise access to water for most residents.

The DA will continue to expose the maladministration and negligence around water supply system until all the communities of Mopani District has water in their taps.

The only way to get prevent dry taps is to register to vote for the Democratic Alliance on 4 November 2026.
