The DA is concerned by the continuous increase of contact crimes reported at the Seshego police station.
The latest Limpopo crime statistics for the three-month period April to June 2022, in comparison to the same period last year, show an increase of 14.2% in contact crimes.
Sexual offences increased by 13.3%, assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm and common assault increased by 29.2% and 26.9% respectively.
Theft of motor vehicles increased by 20% and theft from or out of motor vehicles increased by 41.7%.
Shoplifting increased by 4.8% and uncategorised theft increased by 30.2%.
Our last oversight to the Seshego police station during March this year, was met with resistance and animosity.
The drastic increase of contact crimes and opportunistic property-related crimes are an indication that SAPS do not have adequate police presence on the ground.
The lack of human and physical resources leave Seshego residents exposed and vulnerable to criminal elements.
We will be returning to the Seshego police station next week to demand answers.
The DA is committed to see well-resourced police stations that can execute their mandate which is to serve and protect.
