DA welcomes the arrest of officials from the compromised Sekhukhune District Municipality

The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the arrest of four municipal officials from the Sekhukhune District Municipality on charges of money laundering and theft involving R460,000.

It is deeply concerning that the municipality has failed to suspend these individuals, even after their most recent court appearance on 26 March 2025.

This inaction by the ANC-led municipality demonstrates brazen impunity and reinforces the entrenched culture of corruption that has taken root under ANC governance in Sekhukhune. Instead of taking decisive action against wrongdoing, the Mayor Bahula is protecting those accused of theft from the very people they were meant to serve.

The corruption crisis in Sekhukhune runs deep; in January 2025, an ANC Ward Councillor in Elias Motsoaledi, which falls under Sekhukhune District, was arrested on charges of extortion. Despite this, the local council has failed to suspend him, further proving that the ANC has no interest in cleaning up its ranks.

With both the Sekhukhune District and Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality engulfed in corruption, it is clear that these municipalities cannot self-correct.

The DA, therefore, calls on Limpopo Premier, Phophi Ramathuba, to urgently intervene. The people of Sekhukhune deserve a government that prioritises service delivery, not looting.

The DA remains committed to fighting corruption, ensuring accountability, and restoring ethical leadership in Limpopo. We will not allow the ANC to continue robbing residents of a better future.
