The DA in Limpopo has written to Limpopo Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure MEC, Ernest Rachoene, to urgently maintain the old and neglected Kunap river bridge in Mogalakwena.
After numerous complaints from residents and the farming community a DA oversight inspection revealed the poor state of the Kunap River bridge on the R518 road. View photos here, here, here, here and here.
The Kunap River bridge is widely used by residents, mines and farmers to transport their goods to Gauteng and is vital to economic activity in the area. The soil and material at the base of the bridge has been eroded over the years and it has large cracks along the pillars and bridge deck.
This bridge is in poor condition and this may undermine its stability, posing a risk to all vehicles and community members that use it. The DA has previously raised concerns over the dangerous state of disrepair the bridge is in, and MEC Rachoene needs to urgently address the situation.
The DA is committed to ensuring that infrastructure is maintained to support economic development, job creation and to ensure the safety of residents.
