The Democratic Alliance (DA) condemns the farm attack on JJ Bekker Boerdery at Toitskraal outside Marble Hall on Friday, 24 July 2020, that claimed the life of Mr Jeremias Solomon Macheque.
Mr Macheque was on his way to pay wages to other farm workers when he was overcome by three perpetrators who robbed him of the cash and then shot him.
Mr Macheque was declared dead upon arrival of the emergency services.
The three perpetrators are still at large and is armed.
The DA is extremely concerned that this is the third farm attack in less than a week in Limpopo. On 19 July 2020 there was an attack at Dwaalboom and on 22 July 2020 a farmer was brutally assaulted during a recurring attack at Tinmyne.
It is clear that SAPS have lost the war against crime in rural areas and that these communities are under siege by criminals.
The DA’s request for a debate of national importance in the National Assembly on the scourge of farm attacks and murders nationally has been granted and we will highlight the plight of all rural communities.
The DA in the Limpopo Legislature will be submitting questions to the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mavhule Lerule-Ramakhanya, next week to determine the extent of the roll-out of the SAPS Rural Safety Policy.
The DA would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr Macheque.
We further thank the community organisations and private indiviudals who are assisting with the manhunt for Mr Macheque’s killers.
